Meet the Board - Gary Lumby MBE

Gary joined Incentivesmart in 2019 as a Non-Executive Director and offers a wealth of experience and contacts in banking and finance. Our CEO, Richard White, met Gary whilst on a business management course at Saïd Business School and there was clear synergy.

I grabbed a coffee with Gary to chat about his career and time so far at Incentivesmart.

Hi Gary! Tell us a bit about your work experience and background.

My career started with Barclays Bank and I progressed to Regional Head of SME Business Banking across the North East and Cumbria before moving to Yorkshire Bank as Head of Business Banking. I then went onto become the Head of Retail Banking and finally UK Director of SME Banking for Clydesdale and Yorkshire Bank.

In 2012, I left the banking industry and set up Focus on Success Ltd, a management consultancy business providing Non-Executive Directors to SME’s across the UK. I currently have 31 clients for whom I act as Non-Executive Director across multiple sectors and four businesses of my own.

In 2008, I received an MBE for services to Financial Services in the New Year’s Honours List and I am a Fellow of the Institute of Bankers. I am also a growth expert on the Goldman Sachs 10000 Small Business Programme ran by Oxford University Business School.

What does your role on the board entail?

I advise the leadership team on strategies for growth focused on improving revenues, profitability, and valuation of the business, as well as helping with finance raising, HR, sales and marketing and corporate governance.

What excites you about working with Incentivesmart?

I have experience of working in the reward and recognition sector previously, where I was a Non-Executive Chairman for 5 years and I was excited to work again in a sector that I know and in a growing business such as Incentivesmart. I can see the progress that Richard and the team have made and want to help accelerate that growth and support Richard in meeting the potential of the business.

What’s your favourite quote?

One that my wife quotes at me saying when I die my epitaph will say ‘At least my emails were up to date’, as I am a bit of a workaholic!
